Funnel Optimization

From 13% to 34% ATC in 90 days. No new ad spend. No product changes. Just a funnel audit that found what everyone had missed.

The brief

The ask was straightforward: improve conversions on a service category that had decent traffic but wasn’t converting. The instinct from the team was to run more promotions, maybe rethink pricing.

Before touching either, I wanted to understand why users were leaving — not assume we knew. So we started with a funnel audit.

What we found

Three screens were responsible for the majority of drop-off. None of them were on anyone’s radar going in.

1. The CTA copy was too generic

Buttons said things like “Book Now” and “Add to Cart” with no context about what the user was committing to. Generic CTAs create hesitation at the exact moment you need confidence. Users stalled and dropped.

    2. Price appeared before trust was built

The service page showed pricing in the first visible scroll — before the user had read what the service included, who would deliver it, or why it was worth it. Price visibility without context kills intent. Users saw the number and left before reading anything else.

    3. Social proof was in the wrong place

Reviews and ratings existed — but they were buried at the bottom of the page. Users who were on the fence never reached them. The moment of maximum doubt had zero reassurance.

    What we changed?

    Fix 01

    Rewrote CTA copy with specificity

Replaced generic labels with action-specific copy that told users exactly what would happen next. “Book Korean Body Polishing — 90 mins, at-home” instead of “Book Now.” Specificity reduces cognitive friction at the decision point. The user knows what they’re getting before they tap.

    Fix 02

    Restructured the page hierarchy

Moved pricing below the service description, inclusions, and professional credentials. The sequence became: what it is → what you get → who delivers it → what it costs → reviews → CTA. Users had context before they hit price. Drop-off at the pricing screen reduced significantly.

    Fix 03

Moved social proof to the decision moment

Surfaced the highest-rated reviews and star ratings immediately above the primary CTA — where the user was already making up their mind. Reassurance at the point of hesitation, not buried 1500px below where nobody scrolled.

    Validation

Before rolling out the changes site-wide, we A/B tested two variants against the control. The winning variant was clear within three weeks — higher ATC, lower bounce at the pricing screen, and longer average session time on the service page.

    The lesson

Every team wanted to fix the conversion problem by spending more — more ads, more promotions, lower prices. But the users were already there. They were arriving, looking around, and leaving because the page wasn’t earning their trust fast enough.

The funnel wasn’t a traffic problem. It was a communication problem.

“Before you spend on acquisition, audit where your existing users are leaving. The cheapest conversion is one you were already getting but losing for a fixable reason.”

If you’re running a similar audit — start here

    1. Map where users drop, not just that they drop. Screen-level data tells you where to look. Qualitative research tells you why.
    2. Check the sequence of information, not just the information itself. The right content in the wrong order still loses users.
    3. Put reassurance where doubt lives. Reviews at the bottom of a page help nobody. Find the hesitation moment and put proof there.
    4. Validate with a test before rolling out. Conviction is not a substitute for data. A/B test even when you’re confident.
    5. Measure the right lag. Funnel changes take time to compound — give it 6–8 weeks before drawing conclusions.
